Contest Mode

In 'Contest Mode', you can show an outline map of States, Sections, or Counties, in your choice of Scale and Colors, and then click a checkbox to fill a region with a different color from its unselected neighbors. This is a simple way to create your own personalized maps of States, Sections, or Counties that you have contacted. You can also create maps that differentiate between entities worked on, say, different bands, or modes, or confirmed QSOs, or anything else you like.

To get started, go to the 'Contest Mode' tab-page, then work your way down through the different panels, selecting the options that suit you. In the 'Number of Contest Columns' panel, choose the number of different bands, or modes, or whatever, that you wish to separate entries in your map. When plotting Counties, there is a choice of background map: you can show the full continental US, or a selected State, or Joint Region.

Click 'Start Contest Mode', and you will be taken to the 'Vector Map' tab. The map that you selected will be shown, with all the entities for that map listed in the data-table on your left. On each line there is also a number of columns of checkboxes, as chosen earlier.

Try clicking any of the checkboxes, and the map will refresh to show that entity colored in. The counts for the different columns, and the count of total uniques, will be shown in the Status Bar.

After you have filled in a few regions, using random columns, try clicking the control above the map marked 'Cols: Any'. (If you only have one column, that control won't be visible.) Change it from 'Cols: Any' to 'Cols: 1' or 'Cols: 2' etc. The map will refresh to only show entities checked for the selected column. Return to 'Cols: Any' to see a composite map of all columns.

You can export the entire table, in its current order, as a CSV file by clicking 'Export > Export Vector MapTable to CSV File'. After a short processing period, a window will appear that lets you navigate to the destination-folder for the CSV file. Enter a suitable filename in the 'Filename' box, and choose a suitable file-suffix with the 'Save as type' control. If in doubt, leave at the default '.csv' setting. After saving, you are given the option to open the saved CSV file. This will use whatever program you have set as the default handler for that file-type. Note that although it is called a 'comma' separated file, I have chosen to use the Pipe-character (|) as the separating character, as this is less likely to clash with any other data values.

If you do not have a program that can open CSV files, or if you are not happy with the one you have, I would recommend that you try 'CSVed', which you can download from https://csved.sjfrancke.nl/index.html (Link will open in your Browser). Although a free program, I hope that if you like it, as I am sure you will, you send Sam Francke a small donation. Usage Tip: load your file in  'CSVed', and of it doesn't look right, change the 'Set Separator' in the 'Start and Item Edit' toolbar-tab, then click 'Ctrl-R' to Reload the file.

In the exported file you will see that the checkbox-status has also been preserved, as a Boolean value: True or False. The adjacent 'Contest' column holds a binary mask value of the same line-status.

The current checked-state of your map is automatically saved, and will be restored even after a program close and subsequent restart. To reset all of the values to 'unchecked', go to the 'Contest Mode' tab-page and click the required button in the 'Clear Checkboxes' panel. If you are working with Counties, you can choose to clear the checked-condition for all Counties, or just for those within the Selected State or Region.
