Color Designer

The 'Color Designer' is an area where you can create or edit colors for use elsewhere in the program. The Color Designer has 2 color stores, labeled 'Current' and 'Previous'. The 'Current' color is the color that we are currently working on. The number-controls at the top of the Color Designer shows the values for the 'Current' color when converted into RGB, RGB-Hex, HSV, and CMYK color-models. You can type new values into these controls, or use the arrows to move the numbers up or down. When any number is changed, the other color-models will also reflect the new color value. In addition, the 'Current' color rectangle will be updated to the altered color.

The 'Color Picker' is a tool to sample the color underneath the current position of your mouse cursor. It's use is not confined to the 'CPT Designer' program-window: it will grab colors from anywhere on your Desktop.

To begin color-picking, click the 'Start Color-Picker' button in the 'Color Designer' panel. As you move your mouse about the Desktop, the color beneath the cursor will be shown in the colored box adjacent to the word 'Current'. At the same time, the Hex value of that color, plus the RGB, RGB-Hex, HSV, and CMYK values will be shown in the adjacent panels. When you have found a color that you wish to keep, left-click or right-click the mouse, and the color will be stored in the 'Current' color-rectangle. Note that the original left or right-click functioning of the mouse is not disabled, so if some unwanted event might occur when left-clicking a specific screen-area, you can, instead, choose to right-click.

Once a  color has been stored in the 'Current' color-rectangle, you can use it as a Pasting Color, to transfer to other parts of the program-window, or adjust it's value by toggling any of the up/down controls in the 'Color Designer' panel. As one value changes, so the other values, and the color itself in the 'Current' color-rectangle, will also change.

When the Color-Picker is started a subsequent time, the color in the 'Current' color-rectangle will be moved to the 'Previous' color-rectangle, just in case you still need it.

When the program closes, the colors currently in the 'Current' and 'Previous' color-rectangles are saved, and will be restored when the program restarts.

The 'Current' color has a few more features, controlled by it's adjacent buttons. You can Invert the color, or convert it to a Complimentary color. You can also find out which Named Color is the nearest in value to the Current color, by clicking the 'Nearest Named' button. The result is shown on the Status Bar.

The 'Color Wheel' is provided as a convenient place for the Color Picker to pick colors from. To use it, start the Color Picker and move your mouse over it until you see the desired color in the 'Current' color-rectangle. Click your mouse, and the color in the 'Current' color-rectangle will lock to that color.
