GOM - the Global Overlay Mapping System

Layer Notes - Countries

Six different colors have been used to differentiate between countries on each 'Country' overlay. As is explained on the Name page, areas classed as countries for Amateur Radio purposes are given separate colors, even though they may not be classed as distinct countries in the 'real world'. Examples are Wales and Scotland.

Region boundaries are included for reference purposes. They may or may not be identified on the 'Names' overlay - this is generally due to a lack of space on the maps. However it was felt to be useful to leave them on the map, and the low-impact color used should not obscure any other details.

The exact position of some borders are open to dispute by many countries, and will not be recognised by others. The borders used in these map overlays are generally obtained from datasets listed on the Datasets Used page, though some adjustments have been made to bring things more uptodate. However, due to the many current political disputes, no claim is made to the accuracy or even the existence of any international or national boundary on these maps.
