GOM - the Global Overlay Mapping System

Software Used in the making of this Mapping System.

A variety of software was used in the making of the Global Overlay Mapping System. The blank maps were generated using Win4GMT, a Windows-version of GMT, the UNIX-based Generic Mapping Tools. Other outlines, including region outlines, were generated with ESRI's Arc Explorer program. The overlays were generated in JASC's PaintshopPro v7.02 graphics program. The city locations were defined using a custom javascript-based Coordinate Converter, which will be made available for free download on the MapAbility.Com website. The relief images were generated using the excellent 3DEM program, by Richard Horne. Color matching was done with the help of Iconico's ColorPic. The main task of writing the HTML and Javascript was accomplished using the superb 1st Page 2000 editor from EvrSoft, and numerous small items of text editing were made much easier with Jan Goyvaert's EditPadLite.
